Formula 1 pre-race betting: settlement, markets and the Grand Prix calendar
Formula 1 is the FIA Formula One World Championship, a season-long series of Grands Prix contested in 2026 by 11 teams with 22 cars. Two titles are decided over the year: the Drivers' Championship and the Constructors' Championship, which adds up the results of both cars of each team. A race winner collects 25 points and tenth place a single point, a Sprint pays 8 points down to 1 for eighth, and if the leader has covered less than 75% of the scheduled distance, a reduced scale applies.
The 90% line and other settlement rules
What happens | Effect on the bet | Whose rule |
|---|---|---|
A driver retires before reaching 90% of the winner's laps | he is not classified: a Yes bet on him to win or to finish in the top three loses, with no refund, while a No bet on his win is a winner | site, section 10.33; FIA 90% rule |
A driver retires after passing that mark | he is classified in the position he reached | site, section 10.33 |
A driver does not take the start | bets on that driver are void | general site rules, chapter 9 |
Head-to-head bet | both drivers must start; if both retire, the one with more laps wins, and equal laps mean odds of 1 | site, section 10.33 |
The race is not completed and no official result is declared | all bets are void except markets already determined | site, section 10.33 |
Bets on the drivers' and constructors' titles are long-term bets, settled on the FIA classification immediately after the last race of the season. For results, the site's rules point to the official Formula 1 website.
What a Grand Prix page offers

Each Grand Prix gets its own event pages. The race page has carried three markets: "Who Will Win", priced Yes or No for every driver; "In Top 3", for a driver finishing in the first three; and "Team Driver To Win", Yes or No for each team. The qualifying page showed only the team market, and the selection can change from round to round.
Section 10.33 also covers markets that the rules provide for without promising them at every Grand Prix:
Head-to-head between two named drivers;
Fastest lap;
Fastest pit stop;
Number of race leaders;
A driver's place in the final classification;
"To Complete The Race", Yes or No;
The fastest driver in qualifying.
Once a race weekend is under way, markets may also appear in Formula 1 in-play betting.
Practice, qualifying, race: the 2026 weekend
Qualifying is a three-part knockout. Q1 lasts 18 minutes and drops the six slowest cars to places 17 to 22 in the qualifying classification; Q2 lasts 15 minutes and removes six more, who fill places 11 to 16; the last ten then fight over the top ten in a 13-minute Q3, where the quickest lap takes pole position. The race covers the fewest complete laps exceeding 305 km, or 260 km in Monaco, and if the two-hour limit arrives first, the leader is shown the end-of-race signal at the end of the following lap.
The cars were rebuilt from the ground up for 2026. Roughly half the power is electrical; front and rear wing flaps switch between a low-drag Straight Mode and a Corner Mode; an Overtake Mode, giving extra electrical energy to a car within one second of the one ahead, replaces DRS; the maximum wheelbase is down to 3.4 m; and the power units run on advanced sustainable fuels.
From Austin to Abu Dhabi, then the 2027 season
The 2026 calendar has 23 rounds rather than the 24 announced in June 2025. The Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix did not go ahead in April; Bahrain's round was staged at Sepang, in Malaysia, from 2 to 4 October, and Saudi Arabia is absent from the 2026 calendar. According to the official Formula 1 calendar as of October 2026, six weekends close the season, all in the standard format:
United States Grand Prix, Circuit of The Americas, Austin: 23 to 25 October;
Mexico City Grand Prix: 30 October to 1 November;
São Paulo Grand Prix, Interlagos: 6 to 8 November;
Las Vegas Grand Prix: 19 to 21 November;
Qatar Grand Prix, Lusail International Circuit: 27 to 29 November;
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Yas Marina Circuit: 4 to 6 December, the season finale.
The Arab world has been on the calendar since Bahrain's first Grand Prix in 2004, joined by Abu Dhabi in 2009 and by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, both in 2021. The 2027 calendar from Formula 1 and the FIA lists 24 Grands Prix in 22 countries, 10 of them with a Sprint. It opens in Bahrain on 12 to 14 March with a Sprint, moves to Saudi Arabia for 19 to 21 March, and ends with two Sprint weekends, Qatar on 3 to 5 December and Abu Dhabi on 10 to 12 December. Dates can still move, as they did in 2026.

Formula 1 settlement: three questions
Which drivers count towards the number of race leaders?
Section 10.33 gives that status to whoever lines up first on the grid, normally the pole-sitter, and to every driver who is in front at the end of any lap once the race has begun. The count relies on official FIA results at the moment of the podium presentation.
Does a grid penalty change the outcome of a qualifying bet?
No. Section 10.33 settles qualifying bets on the official FIA qualifying times, and penalties do not count for these markets. A time penalty handed out during qualifying is different, because the FIA takes it into account when deciding who topped the session. The "Fastest" market uses the times from Q3; if there is no Q3, the official grid formed by the FIA decides. A driver must start Q1 for bets on him to stand.
What counts as a pit stop in the fastest pit stop market?
Section 10.33 counts the time spent in the pit lane, including the stop while work is done on the car. A stop made to serve a penalty is not taken into account.
